Johnson Co. 4H Horse Shows
The Johnson County 4H Horse Committee in Cleburne, Texas sponsors several Open Horse Shows throughout the year. These are open to any age exhibitor on any breed horse and we especially cater to the beginning exhibitor young or old. We have several families who have three generations showing with us which attests to our family atmosphere. You will see backyard horses as well as World Champions at our shows. We are proud to offer a show that appeals to such a variety of exhibitors. It is not uncommon to have over 500 entries at ours shows. Of course these shows would not be possible without the numerous 4H volunteers who work throughout the year to make it happen and the support of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse and other community sponsors.
FALL SHOWS
The Fall Horse Shows consist of two shows sponsored by the 4H Horse Committee and the “Fall Classic” show which benefits the 4H Horse Judging Team. The two shows sponsored by the Horse Committee offer a free general horsemanship clinic in the morning and an abbreviated horse show after lunch. The clinic is open to anyone and parents are encouraged to attend. Formal show attire is not required. The late October show hosts our famous “Halloween Extravaganza” costume class which has grown to quite an “interesting event”.
The remaining Fall show is the “Fall Classic” show which is a benefit for our 4H Horse Judging Team.
It is a full show including halter, English, Western, and Speed events. Show attire is required and the show is judged by the senior members of our award winning 4H Horse Judging Team.
SPRING SHOWS
The Horse Committee also sponsors a “Spring Open Horse Show Series”. This consists of three to four shows, March, April and May and leads up to the District 8 Horse Show in June for our 4 H exhibitors. This is a more formal show series requiring appropriate English and Western show attire. Series awards, usually buckles, are presented at our final show.
Showbills and entry forms can be downloaded from our website. Providing us with your email address will allow us to put you on our email “mailing” list. Hope you get a chance to come and show with us.
The Johnson Co. 4H Horse Shows are held in the "Tom Frank Jones Indoor Arena" on the Johnson Co. Sheriff's Posse Rodeo Grounds. This is an unheated, fan cooled arena with bleacher style seating for spectators. Participants may find it helpful to bring lawn chairs so they can "park" railside with their horse. There are no stalls but ample room for all to be under cover in case of rain. Shows are held rain or shine. There is a concession stand for lunch sponsored by the Johnson Co. 4H Horse Judging Team,Hippology Team and Horse Bowl Team. There are a limited number of 30amp. RV hookups at $15.00 per night, payable directly to the Johnson County Sheriffs Posse.
Posse Arena is located on the east side of highway 174 app. 1 mile south of downtown Cleburne.
